The Honorary Consulate of Sweden in Kolkata is the eastern and north-eastern Indian relay for the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi, located at 15 Hemanta Basu Sarani in the Lal Bazar area of central Kolkata, near the Writers' Building and the High Court. Schengen visa intake for the eastern Indian catchment is operated by VFS Sweden in Kolkata (separate facility); decisioning happens at the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi. The Kolkata consular catchment includes the small but operationally important Swedish business community in the eastern Indian industrial belt — Tata Steel's Jamshedpur operations and the broader heavy-industry corridor; the Sikkim Buddhist circuit and the trekking-and-mountaineering flow into the eastern Himalayas; and the long-historical Indo-Nordic trading legacy that runs through the Bay of Bengal ports.
